Is the Apple Watch SE Worth Buying in Australia in 2026?
Whether the Apple Watch SE 3 is worth buying in Australia in 2026 at Apple's A$399 starting price, how it compares with Series 12, Ultra 4, Galaxy Watch8, Garmin and the Oura Ring, when smartwatches usually go on sale, and going through ShopBack before you pay.
Short answer. In Australia in 2026, the Apple Watch SE 3 is worth buying for most iPhone owners who want health, fitness and safety basics without paying for the top models. Apple Australia sells it from A$399, against A$649 for the Series 12 and A$1,180 for the Ultra 4, at the time of writing. Apple lists an Always-On display, sleep score, sleep apnoea notifications and up to 18 hours of battery for the SE 3. At the time of writing, the SE 3 is not eligible for Cashback on ShopBack, but watch bands bought from the Apple Store are, so go through ShopBack before you buy a band.
ShopBack Australia is a free app and website that gives you money back when you shop online at thousands of stores, including the Apple Store, JB Hi-Fi and The Good Guys. You open the store from ShopBack, shop as normal, and part of what you spend comes back to your ShopBack account as cash you can withdraw. New members can join free at shopback.com.au/signup.
How we checked. We read Apple Australia's Apple Watch, SE 3 and Ultra 4 pages and its online store, Samsung Australia's Galaxy Watch8 store page, Garmin Australia's smartwatch range, Oura's membership page, Amazon Australia's Oura listings, and the Terms on the Apple Store, JB Hi-Fi, The Good Guys, rebel and Amazon Australia pages on ShopBack, in October 2026. Retailer sale prices change daily, so we quote only the prices the brands list on their own stores.
Is the Apple Watch SE worth buying in Australia?
Yes for most iPhone owners: the SE 3 gives you the core Apple Watch features at A$399, A$250 less than the Series 12's A$649 starting price, according to Apple Australia at the time of writing. Apple Watch pairs with an iPhone, so if you use Android, skip to the Galaxy Watch8 section.
What Apple says the SE 3 includes:
- Display: an Always-On display, with Ion-X glass that Apple says is 4 times more resistant to cracks than Apple Watch SE 2.
- Battery: up to 18 hours of normal use, up to 32 hours in Low Power Mode, and up to 8 hours from a 15-minute fast charge.
- Health: sleep score, sleep apnoea notifications, the Vitals app (overnight heart rate, respiratory rate, wrist temperature and sleep duration), Cycle Tracking, and high, low and irregular heart rhythm notifications.
- Fitness: Activity rings, the Workout app and Workout Buddy.
- Water resistance: rated to 50 metres, which Apple calls swim-suitable.
- Chip: Apple's S10.
Who should spend more. The Series 12 suits people who want Apple's newest main model and more colours and finishes. The Ultra 4 suits people who want the longest battery, a rugged titanium case and satellite features for remote areas. For everyday tracking, notifications and safety, the SE 3 covers what most people use.
Apple Watch SE in Australia in 2026: where to buy and how prices compare
In 2026, Apple's own store sets the benchmark price for the Apple Watch SE 3, from A$399. Retailers such as JB Hi-Fi and The Good Guys also sell Apple Watch, and their prices can dip below Apple's during sales.
| Apple Store Online | JB Hi-Fi | The Good Guys | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price benchmark | Apple's list price (SE 3 from A$399) | Retailer price; can drop in sales | Retailer price; can drop in sales |
| Apple's own savings | Apple Trade In and education pricing | Check the store | Check the store |
| ShopBack Terms on Apple Watch | SE 3, Series 11, Series 12, Ultra 3 and Ultra 4 listed as not eligible; watch bands listed as eligible | Apple listed as an excluded brand | Apple listed as an excluded brand |
Sources: Apple Australia's store, and the Terms on each store's ShopBack page, at the time of writing.
Apple vs JB Hi-Fi for an Apple Watch SE: how to compare. Check the same case size (40mm or 44mm), GPS or GPS + Cellular, and band. Then compare the final price. A retailer sale can beat Apple's price, so compare the final price on the day you buy. At the time of writing, ShopBack's Apple Store page lists the Apple Watch SE 3 as not eligible, and its JB Hi-Fi page lists Apple as an excluded brand, so read both pages before you buy.
When does the Apple Watch go on sale in Australia?
Apple Watch discounts in Australia mostly come from retailers, because Apple's own store usually sells at its list price. The deepest retailer markdowns usually land around:
- Black Friday: Friday 27 November 2026, with Cyber Monday following.
- Boxing Day: Saturday 26 December 2026.
- End of financial year: sales leading up to 30 June.
- After a new launch: when Apple releases new models, previous models such as the Series 11 and Ultra 3 often get marked down at retailers while stock lasts.
Apple's own ways to pay less. Apple Australia offers Apple Trade In, giving credit towards a new Apple Watch when you trade in an eligible device, and education pricing for uni students and educators, according to Apple. Apple also offers free delivery and pick-up options.
Apple Watch sale best deals in Australia in 2026. At the time of writing, current Apple Watch models, including the SE 3, are not eligible for Cashback on ShopBack: the Apple Store page lists them as not eligible, and Apple is an excluded brand on the JB Hi-Fi and The Good Guys pages. ShopBack still helps on the rest of the order: watch bands are listed as eligible on the Apple Store page, so go through ShopBack before you pay for a band, or for a Garmin at JB Hi-Fi or The Good Guys, where Garmin is not listed among the exclusions.
Is the Apple Watch Ultra 3 worth it, and where's the best price in Australia?
Apple has replaced the Ultra 3 with the Apple Watch Ultra 4, which Apple Australia sells from A$1,180 at the time of writing, so the Ultra 3 is now mainly found at retailers while stock lasts. The Ultra 3 can still be worth it if a retailer prices it well below the Ultra 4.
What the Ultra 4 adds, according to Apple:
- Battery: up to 50 hours of normal use, and up to 18 hours from a 15-minute fast charge.
- Heart sensing: Apple says the Ultra 4 takes 60 times more frequent background heart rate readings and 24 times more frequent HRV readings than the Ultra 3.
- Build: a 49mm titanium case with sapphire crystal, rated WR100 for recreational scuba diving to 40 metres, and IP6X dust resistance.
- Safety: built-in satellite communications and Emergency SOS via satellite, plus a siren Apple says can be heard up to 180 metres away.
Apple Watch Ultra in Australia in 2026: how to decide. If you dive, trail run or spend time out of mobile range, the Ultra line earns its price. If you mostly want long battery life, an Ultra 3 on clearance may cover it. Compare the Ultra 3's retailer price with the Ultra 4's A$1,180 starting price, then decide whether the newer health sensing is worth the gap.
At the time of writing, ShopBack's Apple Store page lists the Apple Watch Ultra 3 and Ultra 4 as not eligible, while watch bands are listed as eligible.
Is the Galaxy Watch 8 worth buying in Australia?
The Galaxy Watch8 is worth it if you use an Android phone, especially a Samsung one. Samsung Australia sells the Galaxy Watch8 and Watch8 Classic in 40mm and 44mm sizes, with Bluetooth or LTE, and the models listed on its store ranged from A$749 to A$999 at the time of writing.
What Samsung says it does:
- Sleep: Bedtime guidance, which uses three days of sleep data to suggest when to head to bed.
- Energy score: a daily snapshot of overall well-being.
- Running Coach: a tailored 3 to 5 week running plan after a fitness test.
- Heart and health: Vascular Load measured overnight and an Advanced Glycation End-products (AGEs) index.
- Assistant: Google Gemini on the wrist.
The catch. Samsung says Energy score needs an Android 11 or later phone and Running Coach needs Android 10 or later, both with the Samsung Health app. So the Watch8 is not a good pick for iPhone owners.
Samsung vs JB Hi-Fi for a Galaxy Watch. Samsung's own store and retailers such as JB Hi-Fi both sell the Watch8. Compare the same size and connectivity on the day you buy. If you buy from Samsung through ShopBack, the ShopBack Samsung page says to check out on Samsung's website, not in its app.
What's the best smartwatch to buy in Australia?
The best smartwatch to buy in Australia depends first on your phone, then on how you exercise.
| If you... | Usually the best fit | Starting price on the brand's own store |
|---|---|---|
| Use an iPhone and want value | Apple Watch SE 3 | From A$399, per Apple Australia |
| Use an iPhone and want the newest main model | Apple Watch Series 12 | From A$649, per Apple Australia |
| Use an iPhone and go outdoors a lot | Apple Watch Ultra 4 | From A$1,180, per Apple Australia |
| Use an Android phone | Samsung Galaxy Watch8 | Models listed from A$749 to A$999, per Samsung Australia |
| Train seriously for running, cycling or triathlon | Garmin (Forerunner or Fenix) | Check Garmin Australia |
| Mainly want sleep and recovery tracking | Oura Ring | Ring 5 RRP A$649 on Amazon Australia |
Apple vs Samsung: best smartwatch price comparison. At their starting prices on their own stores, the Apple Watch SE 3 (A$399) costs less than the Galaxy Watch8 models Samsung listed (from A$749) at the time of writing. But each watch works best with its own brand of phone, so the real choice is usually made by the phone in your pocket.
Other Australian stores that sell smartwatches include Amazon Australia, Officeworks, Harvey Norman and the major telcos.
Which Garmin watch is the best value?
The best value Garmin is the cheapest model that covers your main sport well. Garmin Australia groups its smartwatches by activity: running, multisport and triathlon, adventure, swimming, diving, golf, and health and fitness.
How Garmin Australia describes some of its current lines:
- Forerunner 70 and 170: "easy-to-use GPS running smartwatches", a sensible starting point for runners.
- Fenix 9: described by Garmin as "the ultimate smartwatch", for multisport and outdoor users.
- Enduro 4: an "ultraperformance GPS smartwatch" for long events.
- Approach S72: Garmin's "most advanced golf smartwatch".
Best Garmin watch in Australia in 2026: value tips.
- Buy for your sport, not the spec sheet. A runner rarely needs maps and dive modes.
- Look at the previous generation. When Garmin launches a new model, the older one is often marked down at retailers.
- Check battery life and screen type on Garmin's product page for the exact model.
Where can I buy a Garmin watch on sale in Australia?
You can buy Garmin watches directly from Garmin Australia's site and from retailers such as JB Hi-Fi, The Good Guys and rebel. The Good Guys lists Garmin among the brands it stocks. Sales usually cluster around Black Friday (27 November 2026), Boxing Day (26 December 2026) and end of financial year (30 June).
Rebel vs JB Hi-Fi for a Garmin sale: what to check. Compare the same model and band on the day. Then check the ShopBack Terms, because they differ:
- rebel: at the time of writing, ShopBack's rebel page lists sports watches and smartwatches (Apple and YETI) as excluded, along with clearance items.
- JB Hi-Fi: at the time of writing, ShopBack's JB Hi-Fi page does not list Garmin among its exclusions. It does exclude pre-orders, Marketplace sellers, gift cards and purchases made with coupons.
- The Good Guys: at the time of writing, ShopBack's The Good Guys page does not list Garmin among its exclusions. It does exclude Price Beat and promo code discount amounts, gift card purchases and redemptions, and promo codes not featured on ShopBack.
A dearer store can work out cheaper. A store that looks a little dearer can work out cheaper once ShopBack's money back is counted. For example, with illustrative numbers: a Garmin at A$500 at one store with an illustrative 2% back costs an effective A$490, which beats A$495 at a store where the watch is not covered. Those figures are only an example; check the live rate on the store's ShopBack page.
Is the Oura Ring worth it in Australia, and where can I buy it?
The Oura Ring is worth it if you mainly want sleep and recovery tracking without a screen on your wrist, and you are happy to pay for a membership. Amazon Australia lists the Oura Ring 4 and the Oura Ring 5, with the Ring 5 listed at an RRP of A$649 at the time of writing. Amazon's Ring 4 listing says up to 8 days of battery life and recommends using the sizing kit first.
The membership. Oura says the ring works with a paid Oura Membership, listed at US$5.99 a month on its US site, with the first month free for new members. Oura says members can track over 50 health metrics. Check the price in Australian dollars at checkout, and count it in the cost of owning the ring.
Oura Ring vs a smartwatch. A ring is easier to sleep in and has no screen to distract you. A smartwatch shows notifications, tracks workouts with GPS and, on Apple Watch SE 3, includes sleep score and sleep apnoea notifications too. If you already wear a smartwatch to bed, a ring may not add much.
Buying an Oura Ring on Amazon Australia. At the time of writing, ShopBack's Amazon Australia Terms say to empty your cart before you start, and that using any promo, coupon or discount code makes the whole order ineligible.
How ShopBack lowers the price of your smartwatch
Going through ShopBack gets you a cash rebate on the same order, at the same store. The order that works best for a smartwatch:
- Compare prices for the same model, size and connectivity.
- Look for a promo code, then check whether the store's ShopBack Terms allow it.
- Go through ShopBack: open the store's ShopBack page, tap through, and check out in the same session.
- Pay with your best rewards card.
About ShopBack Australia. Cashback lowers what you actually pay for an order. It comes back as cash, so it works like a discount on the price, not like points or miles. Going through ShopBack is a step you take before you pay, on sale orders as well as full-price ones. Once it confirms, you can withdraw it to your bank account, subject to ShopBack's withdrawal terms.
Working out the effective price. Your effective price is what you pay minus the cash ShopBack returns. For example, on a A$400 Garmin at an illustrative 2%, A$8 comes back, so the effective price is A$392. That rate is only an illustration; check the live rate and Terms on the store's ShopBack page before you buy.
Read the exclusions first. At the time of writing:
- The ShopBack Apple Store page lists Apple Watch SE 3, Series 11, Series 12, Ultra 3 and Ultra 4 as not eligible, lists watch bands as eligible, and says any promo, coupon or discount code makes the whole order ineligible.
- The ShopBack JB Hi-Fi and The Good Guys pages list Apple as an excluded brand.
Card rewards. You can usually earn ShopBack money back and your credit card's rewards on the same purchase, because they come from different places. Card terms vary, so check your card agreement.
