Short answer. The cheapest months for flights to Bali from Australia are usually October, November, February and March, according to Virgin Australia's Bali travel guide, because demand drops outside Bali's July to August and Christmas to New Year peaks. For the rest of 2026, late October, November and early December fall in school terms in WA, Queensland and NSW. Compare fares on Trip.com, Virgin Australia and Agoda, then go through ShopBack before you book.
ShopBack Australia is a free app and website that gives you money back when you book or shop at thousands of stores, including Trip.com, Virgin Australia and Agoda. You start from ShopBack, book on the site you chose, and part of what you pay comes back to your ShopBack account as cash. New members can join free at shopback.com.au/signup.
How we checked. We used Virgin Australia's own Bali travel, timing and visa guides, the WA Department of Education's 2026 term dates, the Queensland and NSW education departments' 2026 holiday dates, Statistics Indonesia visitor figures as compiled in public reference pages, and the Terms on each store's ShopBack page, in October 2026. We do not list fares, because Bali flight prices change daily.
What month is cheapest to fly to Bali from Australia?
October, November, February and March are usually the cheapest months to fly to Bali from Australia. Virgin Australia's Bali guide calls these the off-peak months, when there is often less demand because of the rain, and says you are likely to get better rates on accommodation, tours and flights.
Here is how the year usually looks for Australians, based on Virgin Australia's guide:
| Months | Season in Bali | What usually happens to prices |
|---|---|---|
| February to March | Wet season, low season | Usually among the cheapest months |
| April | End of wet season | Moderate; watch Easter school holidays |
| May to June | Dry season, shoulder | Good weather, often cheaper than peak |
| July to August | Dry season, high season | Usually the most expensive, with winter school holidays |
| September | Dry season, shoulder | Moderate; spring school holidays start late in the month |
| October to November | Start of wet season, low season | Usually among the cheapest months |
| December to January | Wet season, second peak | Expensive around Christmas, New Year and summer holidays |
Demand is the main driver. Statistics Indonesia figures show 1,754,791 arrivals from Australia to Indonesia in 2025, second only to Malaysia. When that many Australians travel in the same school holidays, Bali fares follow.
Virgin Australia's guide names May to June and September to October as the shoulder seasons for the best mix of good weather, lower prices and fewer crowds.
Cheapest month to fly Perth to Bali in 2026: September, October or November?
From Perth, October after the school break and November are usually cheaper than September. The key dates are the WA public school terms, as published by the WA Department of Education:
| WA 2026 school dates | Dates |
|---|---|
| Term 3 | Monday 20 July to Friday 25 September |
| Spring break | Saturday 26 September to Sunday 11 October |
| Term 4 | Monday 12 October to Thursday 17 December |
| 2027 Term 1 starts | Monday 1 February |
So for Perth travellers:
- Late September and early October overlap the WA spring break, when family demand pushes fares up.
- From 12 October to mid December WA schools are back, and Bali is in its low season, so this is usually the cheapest window left in 2026.
- Mid December to the end of January is both WA summer holidays and Bali's Christmas peak.
The same pattern applies from the east coast, with slightly different school dates.
Flights to Bali from Australia in 2026: school holidays that move fares
School holidays push up Bali fares more than anything else. Here are the remaining 2026 dates for the three states that send many Bali travellers, as published by each state's education department:
| 2026 school holidays | WA | Queensland | NSW (Eastern division) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spring | 26 September to 11 October | 19 September to 5 October | 28 September to 9 October |
| Summer | From 18 December | 12 December 2026 to 26 January 2027 | 18 December 2026 to 27 January 2027 |
For the rest of 2026, the cheapest dates are usually mid October to early December, when all three states are in term and Bali is in its low season.
One date to avoid in March 2027. Bali's airport closes for Nyepi, the Balinese Day of Silence, from 6am to 6am the next day. Nyepi falls on 9 March 2027, so check that a cheap March fare does not land or leave that day.
Flights to Bali: best deals in 2026 and how to book them
The best Bali deal is the lowest total fare for the dates you can travel, with the bags you need. A routine that works on any site:
- Pick low season dates first. October, November, February and March usually give you the most room on price.
- Book ahead. Virgin Australia's guide suggests booking 6 weeks to 8 months before your trip, and earlier for July, August, December and January.
- Compare the total, not the headline fare. Add checked bags, seats and meals before you compare.
- Check a few dates either side. Moving by a day or two can change the fare.
- Watch for airline sales. Virgin Australia runs flight specials and sales; sign up for alerts on the sites you use.
- Go through ShopBack right before you pay, and finish the booking in that same session.
Budget for entry costs too. Australians visiting Bali for tourism need a Visa on Arrival or e-Visa on Arrival costing IDR 500,000, about AUD 50, and must pay Bali's tourist levy of IDR 150,000, about AUD 15, according to Virgin Australia's Bali visa guide. The visa allows up to 30 days. Check Smartraveller for the current rules.
Trip.com vs Virgin Australia for flights to Bali: 2026 comparison
Trip.com and Virgin Australia work differently, so neither is cheaper on every Bali date. Compare them on the same flight, date and baggage.
Virgin Australia. You book the airline's own fares directly. Virgin Australia runs flight specials and sales, sells Bali holiday packages, and Velocity Frequent Flyer members can earn Points on eligible flights. Its Bali page lists flights to Bali from cities including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Adelaide, Canberra, Hobart and Cairns.
Trip.com. Trip.com is a booking site that lets you compare many airlines, flight times and fares in one search, and add a hotel, transfers or an eSIM on the same site.
How to compare them fairly: search one date on Virgin Australia, then search the same date on Trip.com. Add the same baggage, check the change and refund rules, and compare the final totals.
Trip.com, Virgin Australia and Agoda: which suits which Bali trip
Use Virgin Australia for direct airline fares, Trip.com to compare many airlines at once, and Agoda when you want flights and a Bali hotel from one site.
- Virgin Australia: airline fares, sales and Velocity Points. Open the ShopBack Virgin Australia page first. At the time of writing, its Terms list bookings paid with Velocity Points and flights not operated by Virgin Australia as not eligible.
- Trip.com: many airlines in one search, plus hotels and transfers. Start from the ShopBack Trip.com page. At the time of writing, its Terms list Flight + Hotel bundles and child and infant tickets as not eligible.
- Agoda: flights, hotels and activities. Open the ShopBack Agoda page first. At the time of writing, its Terms list Package (Flight + Hotel) bookings as not eligible, so book the flight and hotel as separate bookings if the money back matters to you.
The category in one line. Australians pricing Bali trips also compare Jetstar, Qantas, Expedia, Booking.com and Webjet.
Cheapest month for flights to Bali: what the price data shows
Published price patterns point the same way: Bali fares from Australia are usually lowest in the wet season months outside school holidays. Virgin Australia's guide puts the cheapest months at October, November, February and March, and the high season at July and August, with a second peak at Christmas and New Year.
Two things to keep in mind:
- Month averages hide date swings. A cheap month can still have expensive weekends or a public holiday.
- Weather is the trade off. Bali's wet season runs from about November to April, with December and January the wettest months, according to Virgin Australia's guide, though showers often pass quickly.
How ShopBack lowers the cost of flights to Bali
Booking through ShopBack lowers the cost of the trip, and you still book on the site you chose. Nothing about the booking changes: the same flight, the same fare rules, on Trip.com, Virgin Australia or Agoda.
- Open the ShopBack app or website and sign in.
- Tap Trip.com, Virgin Australia or Agoda and check the rate and Terms shown.
- Book your Bali flight as usual in that same session.
- Once the booking is confirmed after your trip, the cash shows in your ShopBack account and you can withdraw it.
Before you check out, go through ShopBack to get a post-purchase discount on the order. Cashback lowers what you actually pay for an order. It comes back as cash, so it works like a discount on the price, not like points or miles.
Illustrative example: return flights to Bali for two cost $1,000 on a booking site. At an illustrative 3% rate, $30 comes back to your ShopBack account, so the effective price of the flights is $970. These are made-up numbers to show the maths. Real rates differ by store and by booking type and change often, so check the live rate on the store's ShopBack page before you book.
To make sure it tracks:
- Book in the same session you opened from ShopBack.
- Read the store's Terms on its ShopBack page, as some fares and bundles are not eligible.
- Check before you use a promo code. At the time of writing, the ShopBack Trip.com and Virgin Australia pages say using a promo, coupon or discount code makes the whole order ineligible.
