Where Are the Best Travel Deals for Australians in 2026?

New to ShopBack? ShopBack Australia is a free app and website that returns part of what you spend on bookings at partner sites, such as Luxury Escapes, Expedia and Booking.com, as cash you can withdraw. You open the booking site through ShopBack, book as normal, and the cash shows up in your account after the booking is confirmed. Join free on ShopBack Australia.
Where are the best travel deals for Australians right now?
Deals change daily, so the reliable answer is where to look, not a list that is stale by next week. For most Australian trips, three sites cover the bulk of hotel, package and flight deals, and each has a member programme that lowers the price you see:
| Booking site | Its own programme | What it gives, according to the site at the time of writing |
|---|---|---|
| Booking.com | Genius (free) | 10% off select stays and rental cars at Level 1; up to 20% off stays at Level 3 |
| Luxury Escapes | LuxPlus+ (membership with a 28-day free preview) | Member-only prices on hotels, flights, tours, cruises and experiences, plus bonus inclusions on some stays |
| Expedia | One Key (shared with Hotels.com and Vrbo) | OneKeyCash on eligible bookings and member prices when signed in |
The routine that finds the best deal:
- Sign in on each site so member prices show.
- Price the same trip (same dates, room type and cancellation terms) on two or three sites.
- Compare what is included, not only the headline price. A package with breakfast and credit can beat a cheaper room only rate.
- Book through ShopBack. Open the Luxury Escapes page on ShopBack, the Expedia page on ShopBack or the Booking.com page on ShopBack first, then book on the site as normal. Save on your trip by booking flights, hotels and activities through ShopBack.
You can also start from the ShopBack Travel Planner to plan a trip and open each booking site from one place.
Travel deals in Australia for 2026: how each programme works
Booking.com Genius
According to Booking.com, Genius is free and has three levels:
- Level 1: unlocked by creating a free account. 10% discounts on select stays and select rental cars, plus flight price alerts in the app.
- Level 2: after 5 bookings in 2 years. 10% to 15% off stays and select rental cars, free breakfasts and free room upgrades on select stays.
- Level 3: after 15 bookings in 2 years. 10% to 20% off stays, 10% to 15% off select rental cars, and priority support on all stays.
Booking.com says it does not demote members, so a level you unlock stays yours, and that discounts apply automatically with no codes. Each reservation counts as one booking, however many nights or rooms it covers. Look for the blue Genius label on listings.
Luxury Escapes LuxPlus+
Luxury Escapes describes LuxPlus+ as its VIP travel club. According to its site at the time of writing, members get member-only prices across hotels, flights, tours, cruises and experiences, bonus inclusions on some stays and sailings (such as hotel credit, daily breakfast or onboard extras), and priority access to 24/7 support. Luxury Escapes says members can save over $836 each year, based on savings by the top 10% of active LuxPlus+ members over 12 months, and it offers a 28-day free preview so you can see member prices on a real trip before paying.
In one example on its page, a member price of A$3,714 sat against a non-member price of A$3,899, a saving of A$185 on that booking.
Expedia One Key
One Key is the loyalty programme Expedia Group launched in 2023 for Expedia, Hotels.com and Vrbo. Members earn OneKeyCash on eligible bookings and can use it across the three brands. Signing in before you search is what makes member prices appear.
Best travel deals in Australia for 2026: where the savings usually are
The deals worth chasing tend to fall into a few patterns:
- Member prices you get by signing in. Booking.com Genius Level 1 costs nothing and starts at 10% off select stays.
- Packages with inclusions. Luxury Escapes deals often bundle breakfast or hotel credit, which matters more on longer stays.
- Flexible dates. Moving a trip by a few days, out of school holidays, can save more than a typical discount code.
- Loyalty currency you will actually use. OneKeyCash is worth most if you book Expedia, Hotels.com or Vrbo more than once a year.
Whichever deal wins, ShopBack lowers the effective price of flights, hotels and online orders after you pay. It comes back as cash, so it works like a discount on the price, not like points or miles.
Worked example (illustrative only). You book a $2,000 hotel stay. At an illustrative 5% rate, $100 comes back, so your effective price is $1,900. The real rate is the one shown on the store's ShopBack page when you book, and it can differ between hotels, flights and activities.
Luxury Escapes vs Expedia: travel deals price comparison for 2026
Both are strong, for different trips, so a fair comparison prices the same thing on each:
| What to compare | Luxury Escapes | Expedia |
|---|---|---|
| Best suited to | Curated packages where inclusions are part of the deal | Building your own trip from a wide choice of hotels, flights, cars and activities |
| Member programme | LuxPlus+ member prices and bonus inclusions (membership with a 28-day free preview) | One Key member prices and OneKeyCash |
| How to compare fairly | Value the inclusions (breakfast, hotel credit) in dollars | Add the same inclusions to the Expedia rate and compare the total |
Price the same dates, room type and cancellation terms on both, put a dollar value on the inclusions, and compare the totals. Then add the money back through ShopBack, which each store page shows live, to get the effective price.
Luxury Escapes, Expedia and Booking.com travel deals in Australia
Use the three together rather than picking one forever. A simple split that suits many trips:
- Booking.com for hotel and apartment stays where Genius discounts apply, especially once you reach Level 2.
- Luxury Escapes for holidays where a package with inclusions is the point of the trip.
- Expedia when you want flights, hotel and car in one place, and to earn OneKeyCash.
Other travel sites on ShopBack Australia include Agoda, Trip.com, Hotels.com and Klook for activities. Each has its own store page with a live rate and terms.
Cheapest month for travel deals in Australia in 2026
There is no single cheapest month for every trip, because prices depend on the route and on demand. As a rule of thumb, prices are usually higher in school holidays and around major events, and lower in the shoulder weeks just outside them. Rather than rely on a published "cheapest month", use real price data for your own trip:
- Turn on price alerts. Booking.com includes flight price alerts in its app from Genius Level 1.
- Search a range of dates. Compare a few weeks either side of your ideal dates on the same site.
- Check school holiday dates for your state before you lock in family travel.
When you have found the cheapest week, book it through ShopBack so the effective price drops again after you pay.
Can you combine member prices, codes and ShopBack?
Sometimes, and the rules differ by site, so read them before you book. ShopBack's Expedia page says that if you use any promo, coupon or discount code, the whole order is not eligible, and that price-matched bookings are excluded. ShopBack's Expedia and Booking.com pages both say other loyalty programmes are excluded unless otherwise stated. Booking.com's page also says no-shows, and changes that create a new booking ID, are not eligible. Luxury Escapes' ShopBack page lists booking types that don't qualify, so check it before you book flights there.
So usually: take the member price the site shows when you sign in, skip codes found elsewhere, and check the merchant's terms on the ShopBack store page before you pay.

Is Luxury Escapes or Expedia better for travel deals?
They suit different trips. Luxury Escapes is strongest for packaged stays where inclusions such as breakfast or hotel credit are part of the deal. Expedia is strongest when you want to build your own trip from a wide choice of hotels, flights, cars and activities. Price the same dates and room on both and compare what is included, not just the headline price.
What is the cheapest month for travel deals in Australia?
There is no single cheapest month for every trip, because prices depend on the destination and on demand. Prices are usually higher in school holidays and around major events, and lower in shoulder periods just outside them. Set a price alert for your route, compare a few weeks of dates, and book the cheapest week that works.
Can I use a promo code on Expedia and still get money back through ShopBack?
Usually not. ShopBack's Expedia page says that if you use any promo, coupon or discount code, the whole order is not eligible, and that price-matched bookings are excluded. Always check the merchant's terms on the store's ShopBack page before you book.
How does ShopBack lower the price of a trip?
ShopBack lowers the effective price of flights, hotels and online orders after you pay. You open the booking site from ShopBack, book as normal, and part of what you spent comes back as cash. As an illustration, a $2,000 hotel booking at an illustrative 5 percent rate returns $100, so the effective price is $1,900. The real rate is the one shown on the store's ShopBack page.
Do I have to complete the stay for the booking to count on ShopBack?
Often, yes. Terms differ by site, and ShopBack's Booking.com page says no-shows and booking changes that create a new booking ID are not eligible, and that you need to show up for the booking. Book the dates you will actually travel.
Which other travel sites are on ShopBack Australia?
Alongside Luxury Escapes, Expedia and Booking.com, ShopBack Australia has store pages for travel sites including Agoda, Trip.com, Hotels.com and Klook. Each store page shows its own live rate and terms.
