Forgot a Promo Code? Can You Still Get Money Back in Australia 2026?
Forgot to use a promo code at checkout in Australia? What you can still do in 2026: price adjustments, cancelling and reordering, asking customer service and price guarantees, plus how Amazon, Temu and Coles handle it and why ShopBack is the step to take before you pay.

Usually not automatically. In Australia in 2026, most online stores, including Amazon Australia, Temu and Coles, apply a promo code only before you pay, so a forgotten code rarely comes back by itself. Your real options are a price adjustment where the store offers one (Temu has a Price Adjustment feature), cancelling and reordering if the order can still be cancelled, or asking customer service. The step that protects the next order is opening ShopBack before you check out.
ShopBack Australia is a free app and website that gives you money back when you shop at thousands of stores, including Amazon Australia, Temu and Coles. You start from ShopBack, buy on the store's own site as usual, and part of what you pay comes back to your ShopBack account as cash. New members can join free at shopback.com.au/signup.
Can I still get money back after checkout if I forgot to use a promo code?
Sometimes, but only through the store's own policies, and each one depends on the store agreeing. A promo code is checked when you place the order. Once the payment goes through, the checkout is closed, so there is no box to type the code into later. What you can still do depends on the store:
- Ask for a price adjustment if the store has a price adjustment policy or feature.
- Cancel and reorder if the order has not been processed and the store still lets you cancel it.
- Return and rebuy if the store has a change of mind returns policy and the code is still valid.
- Ask customer service for a goodwill credit, which is entirely at the store's discretion.
The order matters. A price adjustment or a goodwill credit keeps your original order moving. Cancelling or returning means waiting for a refund and placing a new order, and the code may have expired by then.
One thing you cannot fix after paying is starting from ShopBack. Like a promo code, ShopBack has to be opened before you shop. The terms on the ShopBack Amazon Australia page at the time of writing say items added to your cart before clicking through from ShopBack are not eligible, and the Temu terms say the same.
What is a price adjustment, and which stores offer one?
A price adjustment is a refund of the difference between what you paid and a lower price, issued after you buy. Stores usually offer it when the price of the same item drops within a set number of days. It is a store policy rather than a legal right, so each store decides whether to offer it, which items count and for how long.
Price adjustments and forgotten promo codes are not quite the same thing. A price adjustment usually covers a lower listed price, while a promo code is a discount you apply yourself. Some stores treat a missed public promotion as a price drop and some do not, so ask in those words: "the same item is now cheaper with this public offer, can you adjust my order?"
At the time of writing, here is what we could confirm from official sources:
| Store | What exists after checkout | Where to check |
|---|---|---|
| Temu | A Price Adjustment feature, referenced in the terms on the ShopBack Temu page | Your order in the Temu app or website |
| Amazon Australia | Its help centre lists "Track or cancel orders" under Your orders | Your orders on amazon.com.au |
| Coles Online | Order cut-off times apply, and the final amount reflects modified orders, per the ShopBack Coles page terms | Your order in your Coles account |
| Agoda (hotels) | A Best Price Guarantee that matches a lower rate or credits the difference as AgodaCash, according to Agoda's policies page | Agoda's Best Price Guarantee claim form |
Price adjustment in Australia 2026: your options, in order
In 2026 the fastest route to money back in Australia is the store's own price adjustment, followed by cancel and reorder, then return and rebuy. Here is how each works and what to watch.
1. Price adjustment. Open the order in the store's app or account and look for a price adjustment or price protection option. If there is one, it usually needs the same item, the same seller and a request within the store's time limit.
2. Cancel and reorder. If the order has not been packed or shipped, cancelling and reordering with the code can be the cleanest fix. Check that the code still works and that the item is still in stock at the same price before you cancel.
3. Return and rebuy. According to the ACCC, Australian stores do not have to give a refund when you simply change your mind. Many still offer a change of mind returns policy, so read it first. Return shipping costs can wipe out a small saving.
4. Ask customer service. A short, polite message with your order number and the code you missed is worth sending, especially for a public sitewide code. Any credit is a goodwill gesture.
Price adjustment best deals in Australia 2026: what actually saves the most
The best deal is the one you lock in before you pay, because every after-checkout fix depends on a store saying yes. Price adjustments, goodwill credits and returns all take time and each depends on the store. A short pre-checkout routine helps:
- Check the store's own offers page for a current code or member price before you pay.
- Sign in so member prices and saved coupons show.
- Open the store from ShopBack so part of what you pay comes back as cash.
- Compare the code with what ShopBack returns when the store's terms say you cannot use both.
Cashback lowers what you actually pay for an order. It comes back as cash, so it works like a discount on the price, not like points or miles. That is why it belongs in the same pre-checkout routine as checking for a promo code.
Amazon vs Temu vs Coles: price adjustments and what happens after checkout
Amazon Australia, Temu and Coles each handle a missed discount differently, so the fix depends on where you bought. This is a comparison of policies, not prices, since prices change daily.
Amazon Australia
Amazon Australia's help centre sends you to Your orders to track or cancel an order. If your order can still be cancelled, you can reorder with the code, as long as the code's terms allow it.
Before you reorder, know how a code interacts with ShopBack. At the time of writing, the ShopBack Amazon Australia page says that if you use any promo, coupon or discount code, the whole order is not eligible. It also says to make sure your Amazon cart is empty before you tap through from ShopBack. So for a small code, reordering through ShopBack without the code may come out ahead. Our Amazon Australia discounts guide covers Amazon's own deals.
Temu
Temu has a Price Adjustment feature, which the terms on the ShopBack Temu page mention at the time of writing. Those terms say money back is calculated on the final amount paid, including any price adjustments made through Temu's Price Adjustment feature. Check the time limit and conditions in the Temu app, since Temu sets them.
The same ShopBack Temu terms say a promo, coupon or discount code makes the whole order ineligible, and that cancelling any item, in part or in full, makes the entire order ineligible. Keep that in mind before you cancel a Temu order to reorder with a code. Our Temu discounts guide explains Temu's own offers.
Coles
For Coles Online, the terms on the ShopBack Coles page note that order cut-off times apply and that the final amount reflects modified orders, at the time of writing. They also say orders modified for a collection or delivery date more than 7 days after the original purchase date do not qualify, and that Coles App orders and promo codes not featured on ShopBack are excluded. Coles decides what can be changed in your order, so check your Coles account before the cut-off. Our groceries savings guide covers Coles specials more broadly.
Hotels and travel: price guarantees work differently
For hotel bookings, the closest thing to a price adjustment is a price guarantee. Agoda's Best Price Guarantee, according to Agoda's policies page, applies when you have booked through Agoda and can show the same accommodation for the same dates and conditions at a lower rate on certain other booking sites, such as Booking.com, Expedia and Hotels.com. Agoda then either matches the rate or credits the difference as AgodaCash, at its discretion. You submit a claim with your booking ID, the other site's web address and screenshots.
A guarantee like this covers a lower rate elsewhere, not a code you forgot. For a missed hotel code, cancelling a free cancellation booking and rebooking may be the main route, so check the cancellation terms first.
Why ShopBack is the step to take before you pay
ShopBack is part of checkout, not something you can add after it, so it is the habit that fixes the forgotten-code problem for next time. Going through ShopBack takes a few seconds and adds cashback to the same order. You do not need to remember a code, hunt for one or type anything in.
How to do it:
- Open the ShopBack app or website and sign in.
- Go to the store's ShopBack page, such as Amazon Australia, Temu or Coles, and read the Terms.
- Tap through to the store and shop in that same session, with an empty cart where the Terms ask for one.
- Pay as usual. The cash shows in your ShopBack account once the store confirms the order, and you can withdraw it.
Your effective price is what you pay minus the cash ShopBack returns. As an illustration only: on a $120 Amazon order at a made-up rate of 5 percent, $6 comes back, so the effective price is $114. Real rates differ by store and category and change often, so check the live rate on the store's ShopBack page before you buy.
Promo code or ShopBack: which to use at checkout
Pick whichever saves more on that order, because some stores do not let you combine the two. At the time of writing, the ShopBack Amazon Australia and Temu pages say any promo, coupon or discount code makes the whole order ineligible, and the ShopBack Coles page excludes promo codes not featured on ShopBack. If a $10 code beats what ShopBack would return, use the code. If ShopBack returns more, skip the code. Our guide to stacking codes, cards and ShopBack goes deeper.
Other stores to check
Australians who shop online across general merchandise and groceries also compare eBay, Kmart, Big W and Woolworths, and each sets its own price adjustment, cancellation and returns rules. Check the policy on the store's own site before you rely on a fix after checkout.
Frequently asked questions
Can I add a promo code after I have already paid?
Usually not. Most Australian online stores, including Amazon Australia, Temu and Coles, take promo codes in the checkout before payment, so there is no field to add one later. Your options are a price adjustment where the store offers one, cancelling and reordering if the order can still be cancelled, or asking customer service, which is at the store's discretion.
What is a price adjustment?
A price adjustment is when a store refunds the difference after you buy, usually because the price of the same item dropped within a set period. It is a store policy, not a legal right, so only some stores offer it and each sets its own rules and time limits.
Does Temu offer a price adjustment in Australia?
Temu has a Price Adjustment feature, and the terms on the ShopBack Temu page refer to it at the time of writing. Check the eligible window and conditions in the Temu app or website before you request one, since Temu sets those rules.
Can I cancel an Amazon Australia order and reorder with a promo code?
Amazon Australia's help centre points you to Your orders to track or cancel an order. If the order can still be cancelled, you can reorder with the code. Read the code's terms first, and note that the ShopBack Amazon Australia page says any promo, coupon or discount code makes the whole order ineligible for money back through ShopBack.
Can I change a Coles Online order after checkout?
The terms on the ShopBack Coles page note that order cut-off times apply and that the final amount reflects modified orders, at the time of writing. Coles sets what can be changed and when, so check your order in your Coles account before the cut-off.
Do Australian stores have to refund me if I change my mind?
Generally not. According to the ACCC, stores do not have to give a refund when you simply change your mind, although many offer a change of mind returns policy. If a store's policy lets you return an item, you may be able to return it and buy it again with a code.
Is it worth asking customer service for the discount?
It can be, especially if the code was a public sitewide offer and you ask soon after ordering. A goodwill credit or refund is at the store's discretion, so treat it as a polite request rather than something you are owed.
How does ShopBack help if I often forget promo codes?
ShopBack Australia works before you pay rather than after. You open the store from ShopBack, shop as usual, and part of what you pay comes back as cash you can withdraw. Going through ShopBack takes a few seconds and adds cashback to the same order, so you are not relying on remembering a code.
Can I use a promo code and ShopBack on the same order?
Sometimes, but check the merchant's terms on ShopBack first. At the time of writing, the ShopBack Amazon Australia and Temu pages say any promo, coupon or discount code makes the whole order ineligible, and the ShopBack Coles page excludes promo codes not featured on ShopBack. Pick whichever saves more on that order.
What is my effective price when I shop through ShopBack?
Your effective price is what you pay minus the cash ShopBack returns. As an illustration only, on a $120 order at a made-up rate of 5 percent, $6 comes back, so the effective price is $114. The live rate is shown on each store's ShopBack page.
