Is the iPhone 16e Good Value in Australia in 2026?
Whether the iPhone 16e is still good value in Australia in 2026: what it launched at, how it compares with the iPhone 17e that replaced it at the same A$999 starting RRP, where JB Hi-Fi, Phonebot and Apple fit, and going through ShopBack before you pay.
Short answer. In Australia in 2026, the iPhone 16e is good value only when you can buy it clearly below the iPhone 17e, so compare prices, then check out through ShopBack before you pay, where ShopBack Cashback works like a discount, only easier than a promo code. Apple launched the 16e at A$999 for 128GB in February 2025. In March 2026 it launched the iPhone 17e at the same A$999 starting RRP, but with 256GB of storage, a newer A19 chip and MagSafe, according to Apple. So a 16e priced close to a 17e is not the bargain it looks like. Before you pay, open ShopBack, tap the store, then check out.
ShopBack Australia is a free app and website that gives you money back when you shop online at thousands of stores, including Apple, JB Hi-Fi and Phonebot. You open the store from ShopBack, shop as normal, and part of what you spend comes back to your ShopBack account as cash you can withdraw. New members can join free at shopback.com.au/signup.

Is the iPhone 16e good value in Australia?
The iPhone 16e is good value when its price sits well under the A$999 iPhone 17e, and you are happy with 128GB or can find a bigger model cheaply. Here is what Apple announced for each phone in Australia:
| iPhone 16e | iPhone 17e | |
|---|---|---|
| Announced | 20 February 2025 | 3 March 2026 |
| Starting RRP in Australia | A$999 inc. GST | A$999 inc. GST |
| Starting storage | 128GB | 256GB |
| Chip | A18 | A19 |
| Apple modem | C1 | C1X, which Apple says is up to 2x faster than C1 |
| Display | 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR | 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR with Ceramic Shield 2 |
| Main camera | 48MP 2-in-1 camera | 48MP Fusion camera with an optical-quality 2x Telephoto |
| MagSafe | Not mentioned in Apple's launch release | Yes |
Sources: Apple Newsroom Australia, 20 February 2025 and 3 March 2026.
The table tells the story. At launch, both phones started at the same Australian RRP, but the newer one doubles the starting storage. Apple says the 17e gives "2x the entry storage from the previous generation at the same starting price".
What the 16e still does well, according to Apple: it runs Apple Intelligence on the A18 chip, uses Face ID, has satellite features such as Emergency SOS and Find My via satellite, and at launch Apple said it had the best battery life ever on a 6.1-inch iPhone. For someone coming from an older iPhone, that is still a big step up.
So the 16e is worth it when:
- The price gap is real. If a retailer or refurbished seller has the 16e meaningfully cheaper than a new 17e, the 16e can be the smarter buy.
- 128GB is enough for you. If you keep photos in the cloud and do not shoot much video, the smaller base storage matters less.
- You do not need MagSafe. If you already use cables or do not care about magnetic accessories, the 17e's MagSafe is less of a draw.
If none of those apply, the 17e is usually the better value at the same RRP.
Is the iPhone 16e still sold in Australia in 2026?
At the time of writing, Apple's Australian online store no longer lists the iPhone 16e. Its iPhone line-up shows iPhone Duo, iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, iPhone Air, iPhone 17, iPhone 17e and iPhone 16.
That does not mean you cannot buy one. JB Hi-Fi's iPhone page tells shoppers to "keep an eye out for Apple's e models, too, like the iPhone 17e and iPhone 16e", saying these iPhones usually offer core features from recent flagships at sharper prices. JB Hi-Fi also says it carries the newest releases, older models and renewed iPhones. Refurbished sellers such as Phonebot list iPhone 16 Series models in their range.
Because the 16e is now older stock, availability and colours vary by store and change quickly. Check stock on the day, and compare the exact storage size you want.
Which iPhone is the best value to buy in Australia?
For most people in Australia in 2026, the best value iPhone is the cheapest current model that does what you need, which usually means the iPhone 17e, a discounted iPhone 16e or iPhone 16, or a graded refurbished iPhone. The right pick depends on what you will actually use.
| If you mainly want... | Value pick to look at | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A new iPhone at the lowest Apple RRP | iPhone 17e | A$999 starting RRP with 256GB, according to Apple |
| The lowest price for a recent iPhone | iPhone 16e from a retailer | Older stock can sell below the 17e; check the gap |
| A standard iPhone with the full 16 design | iPhone 16 | Launched at A$1,399 RRP in 2024, still listed by Apple at the time of writing |
| Pro cameras for less than a new Pro | A discounted or refurbished iPhone 16 Pro | Launched at A$1,799 RRP; worth it only well below that |
| The lowest possible outlay | A graded refurbished iPhone | Lower price, with warranty and returns set by the seller |

How to compare value on the day. Line up the same storage size at two or three stores, then work out the price per gigabyte and the age of the model. A worked example with illustrative prices (not real shelf prices):
| Phone | Illustrative price | Storage | Price per 64GB |
|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone 17e, new | $999 | 256GB | about $250 |
| iPhone 16e, new old stock | $849 | 128GB | about $424 |
| iPhone 16e, refurbished | $699 | 128GB | about $350 |
In this example the 17e costs more up front but gives far more storage for the money. The 16e only wins if you are sure 128GB is enough and the saving matters more to you than the extra space.
Is the iPhone 16 Pro still worth buying in Australia?
The iPhone 16 Pro is worth buying in 2026 only if you find it well below its A$1,799 launch RRP and you want Pro features you would actually use. Apple announced the iPhone 16 Pro on 10 September 2024 at A$1,799 inc. GST for 128GB, with the 16 Pro Max at A$2,149.
What the 16 Pro has that the e models do not, according to Apple:
- A 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion and Always-On.
- The A18 Pro chip.
- A 48MP Fusion camera, a 48MP Ultra Wide camera for macro shots, and a 5x Telephoto camera.
- 4K120 fps video recording in Dolby Vision.
- Camera Control and a titanium design.
At the time of writing, Apple's Australian store no longer lists the iPhone 16 Pro, so you would buy one from a retailer's remaining stock or refurbished. If you shoot a lot of zoomed photos or video, a well-priced 16 Pro can be better value than a new mid-range phone. If you mostly message, browse and take everyday photos, the 17e or 16e covers that for less.
iPhone best deals in Australia in 2026: where the savings usually come from
The best iPhone deals in Australia usually come from older stock, trade-ins, refurbished grades and going through ShopBack before you pay. Some can be combined, but each store's terms decide which:
- Buying the previous model. When Apple launches a new e model, the older one tends to move to retailers and refurbished sellers. That is where 16e savings come from.
- Trade-ins. Apple Trade In lets you trade an eligible device for credit towards a new iPhone, and Apple shows the current credit range on its store. JB Hi-Fi says it runs trade-in deals and bundle offers too.
- Refurbished grades. Phonebot sells graded devices, from Like New, which it describes as indistinguishable from brand new, down to lower grades with visible wear.
- Sale events. Electronics retailers often discount phones during big sale periods, so if you can wait, compare prices before and during a sale.
- Going through ShopBack before you pay. This lowers the effective price of eligible online orders, as explained below.
Comparing the full outright price of the same model and storage is the clearest way to see value.
Apple vs JB Hi-Fi vs Phonebot: iPhone price comparison in 2026
Apple, JB Hi-Fi and Phonebot suit different iPhone shoppers, so the better pick depends on which model and condition you want.
| Apple Store Australia | JB Hi-Fi | Phonebot | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What it sells | Current models only, new | New releases, older models and renewed iPhones | New and graded refurbished phones |
| iPhone 16e | Not listed at the time of writing | Mentions iPhone 16e and 17e on its iPhone page | Refurbished iPhone 16 Series stock varies |
| Ways to save | Apple Trade In | Trade-in deals and bundle offers | Refurbished pricing by grade |
| After-sales | Apple's own policies | JB Hi-Fi's own policies | Up to 12 months voluntary warranty, 30-day change of mind returns |

Phonebot in detail. According to Phonebot:
- Battery health. Every device meets a minimum of 80% battery capacity, and iOS devices below its acceptable level get a new battery by default.
- Warranty. A voluntary warranty of up to 12 months applies in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, and on selected devices you can add a further 12 months at purchase, for up to 24 months in total.
- Returns. You can return a product for change of mind within 30 days of receiving the order.
Carriers. Phone carriers such as Optus also sell iPhones, usually tied to a mobile plan. If you are comparing a plan with buying outright, add up the full cost of the phone over the plan before deciding.
How ShopBack lowers the price of your iPhone
ShopBack is a post-purchase discount: go through it before you pay and the effective price drops. For a phone, the routine is simple: before you pay for an online order, go through ShopBack.
Cashback lowers what you actually pay for an order. It comes back as cash, so it works like a discount on the price, not like points or miles. Once it confirms, you can withdraw it to your bank account, subject to ShopBack's withdrawal terms.
How to do it, step by step:
- Open ShopBack Australia (app or website) and search for the store: Apple, JB Hi-Fi or Phonebot.
- Check the rate shown on that page. Some products are excluded at some stores, so check the phone you want is covered.
- Go through ShopBack before you pay.
- Your Cashback shows in your ShopBack account as pending, then confirms later.
Working out what the iPhone really costs. Your effective price is what you pay minus the cash ShopBack returns. The real rate varies by store and changes over time, so check the live rate on the store's ShopBack page before you buy.
Promo codes, trade-ins and ShopBack together
Codes, trade-ins and ShopBack can sometimes work on the same purchase, so check each store's terms before you combine them.
- **If you have a code, work out what it saves, then compare that with what ShopBack would return at the rate shown on its page, and use whichever is bigger.
- Trade-in credit. Trade-in credit is set by the store. Whether a trade-in order still tracks with ShopBack depends on the store's terms, so read them first.
- Gift cards and store credit. Orders paid partly with gift cards or store credit are often treated differently. The store's ShopBack Terms explain how.
Other places to buy an iPhone in Australia
Besides Apple, JB Hi-Fi and Phonebot, iPhones are sold in Australia by electronics retailers such as The Good Guys, Harvey Norman, Officeworks and Big W, and by carriers such as Optus, Telstra and Vodafone. Older models like the 16e show up mainly at retailers with remaining stock and at refurbished sellers. Compare the same model and storage across a couple of stores, and when you buy online from a store on ShopBack, open its ShopBack page before you pay.

In Australia in 2026, the iPhone 16e is good value only when it sells well below the iPhone 17e. Apple launched the 16e at A$999 for 128GB in February 2025, then launched the iPhone 17e in March 2026 at the same A$999 RRP with 256GB, an A19 chip and MagSafe. If a 16e costs close to a 17e, the 17e is the better buy. Before you pay, go through ShopBack.
How much did the iPhone 16e cost at launch in Australia?
According to Apple, the iPhone 16e started at A$999 inc. GST in Australia for the 128GB model, with 256GB and 512GB options. It was announced on 20 February 2025 and went on sale on 28 February 2025. Retail prices since then vary by store, so compare the price on the day you buy.
Is the iPhone 16e still sold by Apple in Australia?
At the time of writing, Apple's Australian online store lists iPhone Duo, iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone Air, iPhone 17, iPhone 17e and iPhone 16, but not the iPhone 16e. You can still find the 16e at retailers such as JB Hi-Fi, which mentions both the iPhone 17e and iPhone 16e, and as refurbished stock at stores like Phonebot.
iPhone 16e vs iPhone 17e: which is better value?
At the same price, the iPhone 17e is usually better value. According to Apple, the 17e starts at A$999 RRP with 256GB, twice the 16e's 128GB starting storage, and adds the A19 chip, the C1X modem that Apple says is up to 2x faster than the C1 in the 16e, MagSafe and Ceramic Shield 2. The 16e makes sense when it is clearly cheaper.
Which iPhone is the best value to buy in Australia?
For most Australians in 2026, the best value iPhone is the cheapest current model that covers what you need, which is usually the iPhone 17e at Apple's A$999 starting RRP, or a discounted iPhone 16e or iPhone 16 from a retailer. A graded refurbished iPhone can cost less again. Compare the same storage size across stores, then go through ShopBack before you pay.
Is the iPhone 16 Pro still worth buying in Australia?
It can be, if you find one well below its A$1,799 launch RRP and you want Pro features such as the 5x Telephoto camera, ProMotion display and Camera Control. Apple no longer lists the 16 Pro in its Australian store at the time of writing, so you would buy it from a retailer or refurbished. If you do not need Pro cameras, a 17e or 16e costs less.
Where can I buy an iPhone 16e in Australia?
In Australia, the iPhone 16e is mostly sold by retailers and refurbished sellers now that Apple's own store lists the iPhone 17e instead. JB Hi-Fi mentions both e models on its iPhone page and also sells renewed iPhones, Phonebot sells graded refurbished iPhones, and phone carriers such as Optus sell iPhones too. Stock changes often, so check availability on the day.
Is a refurbished iPhone 16e a good idea?
It can be a good way to pay less, if the seller backs it properly. Phonebot, for example, says every device meets a minimum of 80% battery capacity, offers a voluntary warranty of up to 12 months that you can extend to 24 months on selected devices, and accepts change of mind returns within 30 days. Compare the grade and warranty, not just the price.
How does ShopBack lower the price of an iPhone?
ShopBack Australia works like a discount that lands after you pay. Before you pay for an online order, go through ShopBack: open the store's ShopBack page, tap through and buy. Part of what you spend comes back as cash, so your effective price is what you paid minus that cash. Each store's live rate is on its ShopBack page.
Can I use a promo code and ShopBack on the same Apple order?
Usually not.
