Galaxy S25 vs Pixel 10 vs iPhone 17: Which Flagship for Australia in 2026

Updated: September 2026

Short verdict: Galaxy S25 is the value pick in mid-to-late 2026 because it has entered its discount cycle and JB Hi-Fi plus Samsung Australia have been running AU$400 to AU$600 off the base and Plus tiers. Pixel 10 is the camera and AI pick at AU$1,349, well-priced against its rivals with strong Telstra and Optus carrier bundles at launch. iPhone 17 from AU$1,399 is the ecosystem pick and holds its price the longest of the three. If you want the sharpest cash outlay right now, Galaxy S25 wins. If you want the newest hardware and are locked into iOS, iPhone 17 wins. If you want the best camera per dollar, Pixel 10 wins. The three-flagship market in Australia by mid-2026

By August 2026, the three headline Android and iOS flagships available in Australia are all on shelf but at very different points in their pricing cycles. That gap is the whole story.

Samsung Galaxy S25 launched in Australia on 14 February 2025 (pre-orders from 23 January 2025). The base 256GB Galaxy S25 launched at approximately AU$1,399, Galaxy S25+ from around AU$1,699, and Galaxy S25 Ultra from AU$2,149. Eighteen months in, the S25 family has fully entered its discount cycle: JB Hi-Fi has been listing the S25 256GB near AU$987 and the S25+ 256GB near AU$1,187, which are AU$400 and roughly AU$500 below original RRP respectively. Samsung Australia has also run direct promotions with similar depth.

Google Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel 10 Pro XL launched in Australia on 28 August 2025. Pixel 10 Pro Fold followed on 9 October 2025. Pricing landed at AU$1,349 for the base Pixel 10, AU$1,699 for Pixel 10 Pro, AU$1,999 for Pixel 10 Pro XL, and AU$2,699 for the Pro Fold. A year in, Pixel 10 pricing has been softer than iPhone 17 and firmer than Galaxy S25, with JB Hi-Fi and Amazon Australia running smaller AU$100 to AU$200 discounts across the range plus carrier bundles.

Apple iPhone 17 launched in Australia on 19 September 2025. Pricing sits at AU$1,399 for iPhone 17, AU$1,799 for iPhone Air, AU$1,999 for iPhone 17 Pro, and AU$2,199 for iPhone 17 Pro Max. Apple pricing controls are famously tight, so JB Hi-Fi, The Good Guys, Officeworks, Amazon Australia, and Apple direct all sit within a few dollars of RRP outright through mid-2026. The carrier path at Telstra, Optus, and Vodafone is where the effective price varies.

Three phones. Three different launch windows. Three very different discount trajectories in mid-2026.

Samsung Galaxy S25 family: the value flagship

Galaxy S25 is the value pick in the second half of 2026. The base Galaxy S25 at 256GB has been listed at JB Hi-Fi around AU$987 during recurring promotional windows, a discount of roughly AU$400 off original AU$1,399 RRP. Galaxy S25+ at 256GB has been listed around AU$1,187, a discount of roughly AU$500 off AU$1,699 RRP. Galaxy S25 Ultra 256GB has seen similar AU$400 to AU$600 off during major sale windows including EOFY and Samsung Discovery Days.

The S25 family runs Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, comes with One UI 7 on Android 15 at launch (updates through the year to One UI 8 on Android 16), and Samsung has committed to seven years of OS and security updates. A 2026 purchase carries software support into 2032, which is comparable to Apple's typical iPhone software support window.

Where Galaxy S25 wins:

• Sharpest cash outlay: the AU$987 to AU$1,187 street price range for S25 and S25+ 256GB undercuts both Pixel 10 and iPhone 17.
• Zoom photography: Galaxy S25 Ultra's 5x periscope zoom remains the deepest optical zoom in the flagship trio.
• S Pen: exclusive to the S25 Ultra in this comparison, still the pick for note-taking and drawing on a phone.
• Samsung DeX: desktop-mode support for external monitors, still uncommon among Android flagships.

Where Galaxy S25 is weaker: the design language has not changed meaningfully from S24, and the AI features (Galaxy AI) are strong but not category-leading compared to Pixel 10 Gemini integration.

Compare the Galaxy S25 range across Samsung Australia and JB Hi-Fi. Samsung Australia via ShopBack covers direct-from-Samsung purchases including Discovery Days promotions. JB Hi-Fi via ShopBack covers the full Samsung range plus price-match against The Good Guys. Cashback available on qualifying orders.

Google Pixel 10 family: the camera and AI flagship

Pixel 10 at AU$1,349 is the sharpest launch price of the three flagships and it is the pick for buyers who prioritise camera quality and AI features. The Pixel 10 base model runs Tensor G5, includes seven years of OS and security updates, and comes with Gemini AI features baked in at the OS level rather than as a bolt-on.

Pricing at launch:

• Pixel 10 (128GB): AU$1,349
• Pixel 10 Pro (128GB): AU$1,699
• Pixel 10 Pro XL (256GB): AU$1,999
• Pixel 10 Pro Fold (256GB): AU$2,699

Where Pixel 10 wins:

• Computational photography: Pixel 10 Pro leads on night mode, low-light detail, and stabilised video according to major review benchmarks.
• AI feature depth: Pixel Studio, Magic Editor, Call Screen, Best Take, and Gemini integration are more mature than either Samsung or Apple's equivalents.
• Pure Android: cleaner OS with faster feature-drop updates than One UI or iOS launches.
• Launch bundles: Telstra, Optus, and Vodafone offered aggressive carrier bundles at launch including free accessories or plan credit.

Where Pixel 10 is weaker: performance headroom trails Snapdragon 8 Elite and A19 Pro on peak benchmarks, and the resale value cycle on Pixel is historically softer than iPhone or Galaxy Ultra. Third-party accessory ecosystem (cases, wireless chargers) is smaller than iPhone or Galaxy.

Check Pixel 10 pricing at JB Hi-Fi and Amazon Australia. JB Hi-Fi via ShopBack covers the full Pixel 10 range plus price-match. Amazon Australia via ShopBack covers the Pixel 10 family and Google-first accessories including Pixel Watch and Pixel Buds. Cashback available on qualifying orders.

Apple iPhone 17 family: the ecosystem flagship

iPhone 17 from AU$1,399 is the price-holds-longest of the three and is the pick if you are already inside the Apple ecosystem or if you weight ecosystem lock-in (iMessage, AirDrop, Continuity, Apple Watch integration) highly.

Pricing at launch and through mid-2026:

• iPhone 17 (256GB): AU$1,399
• iPhone Air (256GB): AU$1,799
• iPhone 17 Pro (256GB): AU$1,999
• iPhone 17 Pro Max (256GB): AU$2,199

Note: every iPhone 17 tier now starts at 256GB rather than 128GB, which is a real value uplift over iPhone 16 pricing.

Where iPhone 17 wins:

• Resale value: iPhone typically holds 60 to 70 percent of RRP at 12 months, higher than Galaxy or Pixel.
• Ecosystem lock-in: iMessage, AirDrop, Handoff, Universal Clipboard, Apple Watch pairing, and Continuity Camera are meaningfully better inside the Apple ecosystem than any cross-platform equivalent.
• Video: A19 Pro plus ProRes Log recording plus Cinematic mode is the top video pipeline in a phone in 2026.
• Software support: Apple typically supports iPhones with major OS updates for seven years, matching Samsung and Google's stated commitments and historically delivering on it consistently.

Where iPhone 17 is weaker: outright pricing rarely dips below RRP through the first year outside of trade-in incentives and carrier bundles. Third-party USB-C accessory ecosystem is still catching up compared to the mature Android USB-C accessory market.

The iPhone Air at AU$1,799 is a new category: 5.64mm thin, 165 grams, A19 Pro chipset. It is a design-first phone rather than a spec sheet leader. Compare battery life and camera output against Pixel 10 Pro and Galaxy S25+ before committing.

Compare iPhone 17 pricing across Australian retailers. JB Hi-Fi via ShopBack covers the full iPhone 17 range with price-match to identical-model competitors. Amazon Australia via ShopBack occasionally lists iPhone 17 at competitive pricing during Prime Day and Black Friday windows. Cashback available on qualifying orders.

Retailer pricing map: JB Hi-Fi vs Harvey Norman vs Amazon Australia vs Apple direct

For flagship phones in Australia the retailer decision is usually secondary to the model decision because outright pricing on iPhone is tightly controlled and the Android two vary less than TVs or laptops do. Still, retailer choice matters for three reasons: cashback availability, price-match access, and carrier bundle stack.

JB Hi-Fi is the default first check. It carries all three families in full, price-matches identical models from The Good Guys and Harvey Norman, sells outright and on carrier bundles for Telstra, Optus, and Vodafone, and is a ShopBack Australia partner. This is where most flagship-phone buyers should start.

The Good Guys carries all three families with slightly narrower SKU depth on iPhone tiers, especially colour and storage variants. Concierge extended-warranty stack sometimes lowers total cost-of-ownership on higher-tier phones (Pro Max, Ultra). ShopBack Australia partner.

Harvey Norman carries all three families. Harvey Norman is not available on ShopBack Australia right now, so JB Hi-Fi or The Good Guys are the Cashback path where they carry the same model.

Amazon Australia carries all three families and occasionally undercuts headline pricing during Prime Day (July) and Black Friday windows. iPhone 17 rarely discounts on Amazon Australia; Galaxy S25 and Pixel 10 both see more visible Amazon Australia promotions. ShopBack Australia partner.

Officeworks carries iPhone and Galaxy families primarily, with Pixel more variable. Price Beat Guarantee (beating a matched competitor price by 5 percent) is the pricing lever. Not a ShopBack Australia partner as of mid-2026 for the electronics category, so cashback path is JB Hi-Fi or Amazon Australia for the same SKU.

Apple direct matches JB Hi-Fi and The Good Guys on outright iPhone pricing and adds Apple Trade-In credit. Apple is on ShopBack Australia; check which products earn cashback in its terms before you buy, and compare with JB Hi-Fi via ShopBack for the same iPhone SKU.

Samsung Australia direct carries the full Galaxy S25 range and runs Discovery Days plus member-exclusive promotions that occasionally beat JB Hi-Fi on Samsung SKUs. ShopBack Australia partner.

Google Store Australia carries the full Pixel 10 range and runs first-party promotions plus trade-in credit. Check whether it is listed on ShopBack before you buy; JB Hi-Fi and Amazon Australia via ShopBack carry the same Pixel range.

Carrier bundles: Telstra vs Optus vs Vodafone

Carrier bundle math changes the picture only if you were going to buy a mobile plan anyway. If you are already on a plan you want to keep, or if you are a SIM-only or BYO user, ignore carrier bundles and buy outright.

For buyers moving plans, all three carriers offer 24 and 36 month device repayment options with the phone spread over the plan term interest-free. The effective monthly cost is (plan fee + device repayment) and the effective total is that number multiplied by 24 or 36. Compare against outright plus a SIM-only plan for the same period to get the true delta.

Historical Australian carrier bundle patterns:

• Telstra: strongest coverage, highest plan pricing, aggressive launch-week bundles including free accessories or bill credit.
• Optus: mid-tier coverage, mid-tier pricing, competitive on Pixel 10 launch and iPhone 17 launch specifically with free Optus Sport or entertainment bundles.
• Vodafone: strong metro coverage, lowest plan pricing of the three, competitive on Galaxy S25 series bundles historically.

The pattern: launch-window carrier bundles for a specific flagship are worth checking if you are moving plans. Outside launch windows, outright plus SIM-only is usually cheaper over 24 months.

Timing: when to buy each flagship in 2026

Galaxy S25: buy now. The discount cycle is fully open and Samsung Australia plus JB Hi-Fi have been running the sharpest pricing of any 2026 flagship window. Black Friday (November) and Boxing Day usually add further discount depth, but recent pricing has already been roughly 30 percent below launch RRP on the base and Plus tiers.

Pixel 10: launched 28 August 2025, so we are past the initial launch premium window. Base Pixel 10 at AU$1,349 is well-priced already. Look for AU$100 to AU$200 off during Black Friday and Christmas windows.

iPhone 17: Apple usually launches new iPhones each September, and outgoing-tier prices at JB Hi-Fi and Amazon Australia usually soften through October and November afterwards. Check current prices before you buy.

Cross-model timing: EOFY (June) is the strongest cross-model discount window historically. Black Friday (late November) is the second-strongest. Amazon Prime Day (July) is the third and mainly moves on Galaxy S25 and Pixel 10 rather than iPhone 17.

Pixel 10 is priced at AU$1,349 with strong carrier bundles at launch. iPhone 17 from AU$1,399 holds its price the longest. Prices reflect Apple Australia RRP at launch on 19 September 2025 and remain near RRP at major Australian retailers through mid-2026.

When did the Google Pixel 10 launch in Australia? Google Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel 10 Pro XL launched in Australia on 28 August 2025. Pixel 10 Pro Fold followed on 9 October 2025. Australian retail pricing starts at AU$1,349 for the base Pixel 10, AU$1,699 for Pixel 10 Pro, AU$1,999 for Pixel 10 Pro XL, and AU$2,699 for the Pro Fold.

Is the Galaxy S25 still worth buying in 2026? Galaxy S25 remains a strong buy through mid-to-late 2026 because it has entered its discount cycle. JB Hi-Fi and Samsung Australia have run recurring AU$400 to AU$600 off promotions on the base and Plus tiers. Software support runs seven years from launch, so a 2026 purchase carries updates into 2032. Compare retailer prices while earning cashback via ShopBack.

Where is the cheapest place to buy iPhone 17 in Australia? iPhone 17 outright pricing is tightly controlled by Apple and rarely varies far from RRP across JB Hi-Fi, The Good Guys, Officeworks, Amazon Australia, and Apple direct. Carrier bundles at Telstra, Optus, and Vodafone can undercut outright if you were going to buy a plan anyway. Activate cashback via ShopBack at JB Hi-Fi or Amazon Australia before checkout to trim the outright path.

Does ShopBack offer cashback on flagship phones in Australia? Yes. JB Hi-Fi, The Good Guys, Amazon Australia, and Samsung Australia are all ShopBack Australia partners across the electronics category. Sign up at shopback.com.au/signup, click through to the retailer before checkout, and cashback tracks on qualifying orders. Rate varies by merchant and campaign window.

Should I buy iPhone 17 now or wait for iPhone 18? Apple usually launches new iPhones each September, and price cuts on outgoing tiers tend to follow through October and November at JB Hi-Fi and Amazon Australia. Check the current line-up and prices before you decide, then go through ShopBack before you pay.

Between Pixel 10, iPhone 17, and Galaxy S25, which has the best camera? Camera preference is subjective. Pixel 10 Pro leads on computational photography, night mode, and video stabilisation according to major review benchmarks. iPhone 17 Pro Max leads on video colour science and Log recording. Galaxy S25 Ultra leads on optical zoom range with its 5x periscope. All three sit in the top tier of 2026 mobile cameras and none is a clear winner across all use cases.

Are carrier bundles cheaper than buying flagship phones outright? Carrier bundles at Telstra, Optus, and Vodafone can appear cheaper monthly but usually total higher over 24 or 36 months once plan fees are included. Bundles make sense only if you were going to sign a plan of that value anyway. For SIM-only or BYO users, outright at JB Hi-Fi, Amazon Australia, or Apple direct with cashback via ShopBack is usually the better path.

What is the ShopBack Snaps feature and does it work on flagship phones? ShopBack Snaps is an Australia-only receipt-scanning feature in the ShopBack app that pays cashback on eligible in-store purchases when you upload a photo of the receipt. Snaps offers rotate weekly and occasionally include electronics categories. Check the Snaps tab in the ShopBack app for current eligible retailers and categories before you shop in store.

How much Cashback do you get on JB Hi-Fi or Samsung Australia via ShopBack? Cashback rates on JB Hi-Fi and Samsung Australia via ShopBack vary by campaign and product category. Check the live rate on each store's ShopBack page on the day of your flagship phone purchase.

Do I still earn credit card rewards when I buy a Galaxy S25 or Pixel 10 through ShopBack? Usually, yes. Your card earns rewards under your card issuer's terms, separate from ShopBack. Go through ShopBack before you pay at JB Hi-Fi or Samsung Australia, then pay with your usual card.

How many days does ShopBack cashback take to confirm on a flagship phone order? Cashback on JB Hi-Fi, Samsung Australia, and Amazon Australia typically shows as Pending in the ShopBack app within 48 hours of purchase and confirms after each retailer's return window closes, which for flagship phones is usually 30 to 60 days from order date. Track the exact status per order in the ShopBack app Transaction History tab.

When is the best time of year to buy a flagship phone in Australia? EOFY in late June is the sharpest cross-model window historically, followed by Black Friday and Cyber Monday in late November, and Amazon Prime Day in mid-July for Galaxy and Pixel specifically. iPhone rarely dips outside the weeks after a new iPhone launch (October to November) or Apple education promos. Go through ShopBack before you pay in whichever window you buy.

Is Pixel 10 better than iPhone 17 for photography in Australia? Pixel 10 Pro leads on computational photography, night mode, and stabilised video according to major review benchmarks; iPhone 17 Pro Max leads on video colour science, ProRes Log recording, and Cinematic mode. For still photography in Australian lighting, Pixel 10 Pro is often the sharper pick; for video-first shooters, iPhone 17 Pro Max is the pick. Both sit in the top tier of 2026 mobile cameras.
