How Does the Apple Education Discount Work in Australia in 2026?
How the Apple education discount works in Australia in 2026: who qualifies under Apple's education terms, how much it takes off Mac and iPad prices (A$30 to A$350 on the from-prices), the yearly purchase limits, what it does not cover, and why you go through ShopBack before you check out.
How Does the Apple Education Discount Work in Australia in 2026?
Updated: October 2026. By Jean Goh, Editor, ShopBack Australia.
In Australia, the Apple education discount works through the Apple Store for Education, where uni students aged 18 and over, parents buying for a uni student, and teachers and university staff see lower prices on Mac, iPad, Apple Watch and some accessories. At the time of writing a MacBook Air starts at A$1,939 with education pricing against A$2,099 in the main store, a A$160 saving, according to Apple. Apple may ask you to prove eligibility and caps how many discounted items you can buy each year.
ShopBack Australia is a free app and website that gives you cash back when you shop online at thousands of stores, including the Apple Store. You open the store from ShopBack, shop as usual, and part of what you pay comes back to your ShopBack account. New members can join free at shopback.com.au/signup.

How does the Apple education discount work in Australia?
Apple runs a separate education version of its Australian online store, and eligible buyers see a lower price on most Mac and iPad models there. You shop it like the normal store, but each eligible product shows a "with education savings" price.
Here is how it works in practice, based on Apple's own pages:
- You shop from the education store. Apple's Education Pricing page lists Mac, iPad, Apple Watch, displays and accessories with education savings.
- Apple checks you qualify. The page says verification is required, and Apple's education terms say it may require evidence of eligibility.
- You pay the lower price. The education price is applied to eligible products in your bag, online or in an Apple Store.
- Yearly limits apply. Apple caps how many items each person can buy with education pricing each year (see the limits below).
- Normal Apple returns apply. Undamaged products can come back within 14 days of delivery, under Apple's education sales policy.
One step sits before all of this: before you check out, go through ShopBack. That is the step that lowers the price you actually pay for the same Apple order, and it is covered in its own section below.
Apple education discount prices in Australia for 2026
The education discount on Apple's Australian from-prices ranges from A$30 to A$350 at the time of writing, with most Macs starting A$160 lower. The table compares the "from" price in Apple's main Australian store with the "from" price shown with education savings.
| Product | Main store from-price | Education from-price | Saving |
|---|---|---|---|
| MacBook Neo | A$1,049 | A$899 | A$150 |
| MacBook Air | A$2,099 | A$1,939 | A$160 |
| MacBook Pro | A$3,199 | A$3,039 | A$160 |
| Mac mini | A$1,449 | A$1,289 | A$160 |
| Mac Studio | A$4,299 | A$3,949 | A$350 |
| Studio Display | A$2,599 | A$2,439 | A$160 |
| 11-inch iPad Pro | A$1,999 | A$1,829 | A$170 |
| 11-inch iPad Air | A$1,249 | A$1,169 | A$80 |
| iPad mini | A$949 | A$869 | A$80 |
| iPad | A$749 | A$719 | A$30 |
Prices are Apple's own from-prices in Australian dollars at the time of writing, according to Apple's Australian buy pages and its Education Pricing page. Higher configurations have their own prices, and Apple can change prices without notice, so check both stores on the day you buy.
What the numbers tell you. The discount is worth most on a Mac. A first-year student buying a MacBook Air keeps A$160 compared with the main store price, while the entry iPad saves A$30. If you are choosing between a Mac and an iPad for uni, the education saving is a reason to check the Mac price before you decide.
Who is eligible for the Apple Store student discount in Australia?
According to Apple's Australian education sales policy, four groups can buy from the Apple Store for Education.
- Students: full-time or part-time students aged 18 or over with a current student union card or student ID, studying at or accepted into an accredited Australian university or other Apple-approved institution.
- University staff: lecturers or staff members at an accredited Australian university.
- Teachers: teachers or lecturers working at an Apple-approved and registered education establishment within Australia.
- Parents: a parent buying on behalf of their child, where the child is attending or accepted into an accredited Australian university or other Apple-approved institution.
Apple's education page puts it in shorter form: education pricing is available to current and newly accepted university students, parents buying for university students, and teachers and staff at all levels.
Newly accepted students count. Apple's terms include people "accepted into" an accredited university, so a school leaver with an offer can usually buy before the first semester starts, provided they meet the age rule.
Apple decides which institutions qualify. The terms say Apple may approve and register an education establishment at its sole discretion. If you study at a private college or TAFE, check with Apple before you order.
Apple Store official student discount terms
Apple's official terms set three rules that matter most: personal use only, proof on request, and yearly quantity limits.
Personal use. Products bought from the Apple Store for Education must be for your own personal, education or research use, according to Apple.
Proof of eligibility. Apple may ask for evidence that you qualify. Its terms say it can cancel all or part of an order if it learns the buyer is not a student, teacher or lecturer as described, or the products are not for personal use, and that it will tell you in writing and refund any money paid.
Yearly purchase limits. Apple's Australian education terms allow, per year:
| Product type | Education-priced items per year |
|---|---|
| Desktop | 1 |
| Mac mini | 1 |
| MacBook | 1 |
| Display | 1 |
| iPad | 2 |
| Apple Watch | 1 |
| Accessories | 2 |
The limits are the same whether you buy online or in an Apple Store, and Apple notes that not all products have education pricing.
Returns. Apple's education sales policy lets you return an undamaged product with its accessories, packaging and original receipt within 14 days of receiving it, for an exchange or a refund to the original payment method. Refunds are paid only into an Australian bank account in the payer's name. These rights are in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
What the Apple education discount does not cover
iPhone is not part of Apple's education pricing in Australia. iPhone does not appear in the product list in Apple's education terms, and on the Education Pricing page at the time of writing, iPhone models such as iPhone 17 (from A$1,549) and iPhone 18 Pro (from A$2,099) are shown at their regular prices without an education savings label.
Other things to know:
- AirPods and AirTag appear on the education page at their listed prices (AirPods 5 from A$219 and AirTag from A$49 at the time of writing), without an education savings label.
- Accessories are limited to two education-priced items a year, and not every accessory carries education pricing.
- Apple Watch does carry education pricing (Apple Watch SE 3 from A$369 and Series 12 from A$579 with education savings at the time of writing), but only one a year.
Other Apple student savings in Australia
Apple's education page lists a few student and educator savings beyond hardware at the time of writing.
- AppleCare+: students and educators can save up to 10% on AppleCare+ coverage for a new Mac or iPad.
- Apple Creator Studio: A$4.99 per month for students and educators. Apple says it includes Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro, Pixelmator Pro and productivity apps.
- Apple Music Student Plan: a special student rate that comes with Apple TV, according to Apple.
- Trade in: you can trade in an eligible device for credit towards a new one. Apple says you must be at least 18 to trade in for credit or an Apple Gift Card, and values depend on the condition, year and model of the device.
How to buy with the Apple education discount, step by step
Start from ShopBack, then shop the education store as usual and finish the order in one session.
- Check you qualify using the four groups in Apple's terms above.
- Compare the two prices. Look at the main store price and the education price for the exact configuration you want.
- Before you check out, go through ShopBack. Open the ShopBack Apple page, tap through to Apple, and read the Terms on that page first, because some products are excluded.
- Shop the education store in the same browser window and add your Mac or iPad to the bag.
- Complete Apple's verification if asked, and keep proof of enrolment or employment handy.
- Check out in the same session, without opening a new tab or coming back later, so the order is recorded.
How ShopBack lowers what you pay at Apple
Your effective price is what you pay minus the cash ShopBack returns. The education discount lowers the sticker price; going through ShopBack before you check out lowers what the order costs you after it is confirmed.
Cashback lowers what you actually pay for an order. It comes back as cash, so it works like a discount on the price, not like points or miles, and you can withdraw it from your ShopBack account once it is confirmed.
Worked example (illustrative). Say you buy a MacBook Air at the education from-price of A$1,939. At an illustrative 2%, A$38.78 comes back, so your effective price is A$1,900.22. Check the live rate on the ShopBack Apple page, because rates and eligible products change.
Read the Terms before you buy. The Terms on the ShopBack Apple page list which Apple products and stores are not eligible, and they change when new products launch. The page also explains that the order needs to be completed in the same session you start from ShopBack.
For stores like Apple, just as for Booking.com, Trip.com, Agoda and Expedia, going through ShopBack is an essential step before you check out, so you pay less on the same order. ShopBack Australia is free to join.
Where else Australians buy Apple products
Apple products are also sold by electronics retailers such as JB Hi-Fi, The Good Guys, Officeworks and Harvey Norman, each with its own prices, sales and services. Apple's education pricing itself applies to purchases from the Apple Store for Education, so compare the education price with any retailer sale on the day you buy, and start from ShopBack wherever you check out.
